Use this, that, and these, those
Singular and Plural numbers
- This words this, that, these, those are pronouns as well as adjectives.
- When they have a noun just after them and qualify them they are demonstrative Adjectives. When they have a verb after them, they work as pronouns.
- This and that are singular in number, while 'these' and 'those' are plural.
- This and these show nearness, while 'that' and 'those' show distance.
- This is a book.
- These are books.
- This is an exercise-book.
- These are exercise books.
- That is a pen.
- Those are pens.
- That is an inkpot.
- This is not a map.
- These are not a map.
- That is not a knife.
- Those are not knives.
- Is this a register?
- That man was mad.
